What is Assisted Living?

Assisted Living is a broad term and loosely applied to many senior living options that offer services supporting activities of daily living, coordination of services by outside health providers, monitoring of resident activities to help ensure a resident’s health, safety and well- being. Assistance is often tailored to the needs of the individual and it may include more services such as supervision of medication, and or personal care services. At the apartments of Elizabeth Residence, one may chose as little or as many needed services needed to support living in an apartment.

What is a CBRF commonly referred to as a residential facility or a memory care facility?

A CBRF is an acronym for Community Based Residential Facility and in WI it is a state licensed residential facility that can offer care accommodations based on a facility’s particular licensure. Elizabeth residences Memory Care CBRF’s, not the apartments, are licensed for the care older adults with dementia and frail older adults with other medicals needs requiring our services. Classifications within the CBRF license can be ambulatory, semi-ambulatory or a non- ambulatory. Class C is the designation for all of Elizabeth Residence’s facilities so that all residents receiving care in our CBRFS can age in place and be cared for throughout their disease process. Elizabeth Residence’s class c serves residents who are ambulatory, semi ambulatory, or non-ambulatory. Allowing residents to remain at Elizabeth Residence as their needs change.

Are nurses on staff at the Elizabeth Residence Facilities?

Yes, we have Registered Nurses at all of the Elizabeth Residences who with the residents and their designated health care POA, create an individualized plan of care that incorporates the physical, mental, spiritual and emotional needs of the resident. The Registered Nurses are available daily for the ongoing needs of our residents.

How do I determine if a move to a residential care facility such as a CBRF is a good option?

• Is the person with dementia becoming unsafe in their current home?

• Is the health of the person with dementia of my health as a caregiver at risk?

• Is the person receiving care beyond my physical abilities,?

• Am I becoming a stressed, irritable and impatient caregiver?

• Am I neglecting work responsibilities for myself and my family?

• Would the structure and social interaction at a care facility benefit the person with dementia?

Please know that any move, regardless of the benefits will be a stressful experience often accompanied by feelings of guilt and uncertainty. These feelings are common and other Families that have gone through the process are known to be a great support for new families.

Part of our mission statement is to care for others as you would wish to be cared for. We have cared for each of our parents at our facilities when their needs were too much for them to remain safely in our family home. Families and residents have always been quintessential in participating in the ongoing planning of care and families are updated with any changes in resident care or condition. Experienced and dementia trained staff, an exciting activity program, Registered nurses and medical staff with on- site visits all contribute to the dynamic care and programing of the facility. Elizabeth Residence is generous with staffing rations and have been able to sustain long term employees.

Are there regular meal and snack times?

At Elizabeth Residence, meal time has always been a dining experience with a well- balanced plate and at the same time honoring special diets. Fruit and other healthy snack options and beverages are always available for residents and their families. An open invitation for a family member to join a resident at mealtime has been our practice prior to COVID and will resume again when safety permits. The Coury family’s mother Elizabeth always made it a point to provide delicious home- made meals and bakery for her children and the owners have made it a priority to use Elizabeth’s high standards when developing menus for their residents.

What about pets? 

At the apartments of Elizabeth Residence there is a designated pet wing. The memory care facilities enjoy their individual pet therapy dogs on a regular basis. Visits from resident family pets are also practiced, after safety screening questions of pets are provided to their respective facility.
